This beautiful piece is among many composed, around the turn of the 20th century, for or under the inspiration of the great French flute player and teacher Paul Taffanel. New performing editions have been prepared by Ken Smith and several other similar works are in preparation. Kenneth Smith was for many years principal flute with the Philharmonia Orchestra in London until his retirement from that post in 2012.
This work has been recorded by Kenneth Smithwith Paul Rhodes (piano) as part of a 3 CD collection entitled‘A Song without Words–the Legacy of Paul Taffanel’ (Divine Art DDA 21371).
