Introduction
‘Yantra’ was inspired by my stay in Barcelona in December 2022, where my four pieces for piano and string orchestra were recorded
The piece, which is divided into four sections, follows the laws of Schoenberg’s serialism with some freedom: The first section is the music played straight-forward.
In the second section this music is played backwards (retrograde); in the third section the music is inverted; and in the last section the music is played in retrograde inversion. Simultaneously, the piece is moving through the circle of fifths, beginning in A Minor and ending in D Major.
Each section is introduced by a ‘refrain’, following the same laws as the whole piece. The four harsh fffz-dissonances heralding each new section are a quotation of the four chords in the beginning of my early piano piece ‘Stadier Op. 1’
